MBBS in University of Deusto Faculty of Health Sciences

The University of Deusto (Universidad de Deusto) Faculty of Health Sciences is one of Spain's respected private institutions for health sciences education, located in Bilbao, Spain. The faculty is recognised for its interdisciplinary approach, innovative teaching methods, strong emphasis on research, and close collaboration with healthcare institutions. It prepares future healthcare professionals through a curriculum that combines biomedical sciences, clinical knowledge, research, ethics, and patient-centred care.

Founded in 1886, the University of Deusto is one of Spain's oldest private universities. Operated by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), the university has earned an international reputation for academic excellence, research, innovation, and social responsibility. The Faculty of Health Sciences reflects these values by integrating scientific education with professional ethics, teamwork, and community engagement.

The Medicine programme follows the European Higher Education Area framework and is designed to provide students with comprehensive medical education through biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, communication skills, public health, scientific research, ethics, and supervised clinical education. The curriculum supports the gradual development of scientific understanding alongside practical clinical competence.

Students begin their education by studying anatomy, histology, embryology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology, neuroscience, behavioural sciences, epidemiology, public health, medical ethics, and research methodology. These subjects establish the scientific foundation required for later clinical practice.

Teaching methods combine lectures, anatomy practicals, laboratory sessions, simulation-based learning, clinical skills workshops, problem-based learning, case discussions, digital learning platforms, and small-group tutorials. Students continuously strengthen analytical thinking, communication skills, teamwork, professionalism, and evidence-based clinical reasoning.

Clinical education is delivered through affiliated teaching hospitals, specialist healthcare institutions, outpatient clinics, primary healthcare centres, and community medical facilities. Students receive supervised practical experience across numerous medical specialties while applying theoretical knowledge in real healthcare environments.

Clinical rotations include internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, anaesthesiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, radiology, oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, geriatrics, infectious diseases, family medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and community healthcare.

Students actively participate in ward rounds, outpatient consultations, emergency departments, operating theatres, multidisciplinary clinical meetings, diagnostic procedures, and supervised patient management. Clinical responsibilities gradually increase under physician supervision as students advance through the programme.

Simulation-based education supports practical learning through modern clinical skills laboratories equipped with advanced patient simulators, emergency medicine training facilities, procedural skills laboratories, consultation rooms, and digital healthcare technologies. These facilities help students gain confidence before entering hospital-based clinical practice.

Research is integrated throughout the curriculum. Students are encouraged to participate in biomedical research involving neuroscience, public health, healthcare innovation, genetics, molecular medicine, epidemiology, digital health, and translational medicine. Research participation promotes scientific thinking and evidence-based clinical practice.

The university collaborates with teaching hospitals, healthcare organisations, research centres, and international universities to strengthen clinical education, research, and global academic cooperation.

The curriculum incorporates evidence-based medicine, patient safety, professionalism, ethics, healthcare leadership, digital medicine, healthcare quality improvement, interprofessional collaboration, and public health throughout all years of study. Graduates are prepared for modern medical practice according to European healthcare standards.

Students benefit from modern educational infrastructure including anatomy laboratories, biomedical research laboratories, simulation centres, clinical skills laboratories, digital learning environments, medical libraries, and affiliated teaching hospitals equipped with advanced healthcare technologies.

Student life includes scientific societies, student research groups, sports clubs, cultural activities, volunteering programmes, leadership initiatives, entrepreneurship opportunities, international exchange programmes, and comprehensive student support services.

International students receive academic advising, language support, counselling services, career guidance, digital learning resources, and opportunities for international mobility through partnerships with universities worldwide.

Graduates continue into residency programmes, postgraduate medical education, biomedical research, academic medicine, healthcare administration, public health, and international clinical practice according to national licensing regulations.

Today, the University of Deusto Faculty of Health Sciences continues to strengthen its reputation through innovative education, interdisciplinary healthcare training, international collaboration, and research excellence.
