The Medical Faculty has steadily expanded its reputation by preparing competent healthcare professionals capable of meeting both national and international healthcare standards.
The university traces its origins to 1962, when higher education institutions were first established in the region. Over the years, Kokshetau University has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution offering programmes across various disciplines, including medicine. Through continuous curriculum development, investment in educational infrastructure, and partnerships with healthcare institutions, the Medical Faculty has strengthened its role in Kazakhstan's medical education system.
The university offers a six-year Doctor of Medicine (MD/MBBS equivalent) programme that combines strong theoretical knowledge with extensive clinical exposure. The curriculum follows internationally accepted medical education standards and integrates biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, evidence-based healthcare, communication skills, public health, scientific research, medical ethics, and patient-centred care. Graduates are prepared for postgraduate education, licensing examinations, and professional medical practice both within Kazakhstan and internationally.
Medical education begins with comprehensive instruction in the foundational medical sciences. Students study anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology, embryology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology, behavioural sciences, epidemiology, preventive medicine, medical ethics, and biostatistics. These disciplines establish the scientific foundation necessary before progressing into clinical medicine.
The curriculum combines classroom instruction with anatomy dissections, laboratory practicals, simulation-based learning, problem-based learning (PBL), case-based discussions, digital learning platforms, and interdisciplinary seminars. Throughout the programme, students develop analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, communication skills, teamwork, professionalism, and clinical decision-making abilities.
Clinical exposure begins during the early years through communication workshops, physical examination training, simulation laboratories, patient interviews, and supervised hospital observations. These experiences help students gradually transition from theoretical learning to direct patient care.
Clinical education is conducted through affiliated hospitals, regional medical centres, university clinics, and specialised healthcare institutions across Kokshetau and the surrounding Akmola Region. Students receive practical education across internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, orthopaedics, emergency medicine, anaesthesiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, ENT, radiology, oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, rehabilitation medicine, family medicine, and community healthcare.
During clinical rotations, students actively participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, emergency departments, operating theatres, multidisciplinary case discussions, diagnostic procedures, and supervised patient care. These practical experiences enable students to integrate classroom knowledge with clinical decision-making while developing confidence and professionalism.
The Medical Faculty utilises modern educational technologies including advanced clinical simulation laboratories, anatomy laboratories, diagnostic laboratories, digital learning systems, emergency medicine training facilities, and specialised medical equipment that prepare students for modern healthcare environments.
Research remains an important component of the university's academic mission. Faculty members conduct research in clinical medicine, internal medicine, surgery, infectious diseases, cardiology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, epidemiology, public health, biomedical sciences, regenerative medicine, healthcare management, and medical education. Students are encouraged to participate in faculty-supervised research projects, innovation competitions, scientific publications, conferences, and academic seminars.
International cooperation continues to expand through partnerships with universities, research institutes, and healthcare organisations across Central Asia, Europe, and neighbouring countries. Student exchanges, collaborative research, visiting faculty programmes, and international academic conferences provide valuable global exposure while strengthening educational quality.
The curriculum incorporates contemporary healthcare concepts including evidence-based medicine, digital healthcare, preventive medicine, patient safety, healthcare management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional ethics. These components prepare graduates to succeed within rapidly evolving global healthcare systems.
Simulation-based education is integrated throughout the programme.
